Customs & AEO Coordinator

Your tasks

  • Auditing processes and databases to ensure the appropriate customer empowerment (Customs Representation Authorisation or CRA) is held, completed correctly and stored centrally in line with local procedures
  • Aligning regionally, where feasible, and supporting locally with the creation, distribution and maintenance of standardised documents to support the customs process and AEO compliance
  • Ensuring all the conditions of all local authorisations are known and adhered to
  • Conducting regular audits to verify accuracy of customs entries
  • Liaison and co-ordination with branch operations and premises management, to ensure that premises and security management actions, processes, and procedures are compliant with AEO Security requirements as part of combined AEO accreditation
  • Ensuring branches undertake regular safety and security risk assessments
  • Ensuring overall compliance with standard operating procedures for Customs and AEO processes is monitored and maintained
  • Direct liaison with external and internal customers where deemed necessary
  • Direct liaison with appropriate stakeholders in the UK and Ireland as well as Customs authorities (HMRC, REVENUE) and other agencies as and when necessary (including, but not limited to, Border Force and DEFRA)
  • Keeping up to date with on-going changes to relevant Customs procedures, legislation and Notices and applying those changes into the daily working tasks, processes and procedures as necessary
  • Ensuring an awareness culture regarding Customs and AEO matters within the operations departments, improving ‘all-round’ general knowledge to foster a co-operative and productive working environment in which the importance of Customs requirements and the implications of non-compliance are understood
  • Proactively review and, where feasible, aligned AEO procedures regionally
  • Lead AEO reassessment events
  • Support local assurance events with local authorities

Your qualifications

  • EU Customs regulations and UK Specificities
  • Excellent communication skills – with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Awareness of global geography
  • Ability to influence and impact people across all levels in the organisation
  • Customs procedures and formalities knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with UK CHIEF/ CDS system and proprietary software systems in relation to processing declarations for goods entering and leaving the UK or EU through ports and airports, and processing Customs information electronically
  • Ability to listen to others and understand the situation from their perspective
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Mathematical and computer literacy
  • Attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • Skilled in adapting their style and language to suit the customer, department or level that they are dealing with
  • A high customer service orientation with a passion for delivering quality
  • Highly adaptable
  • Ability to deal with customer problems efficiently and professionally
  • Ability to take responsibility to resolve issues
